SUL Computing is proud to be a Cisco Networking Academy too. We recently hosted another successful Cisco certification event, where two Level 5 Cybersecurity students and a recent BSc graduate achieved their CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certifications. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to these talented individuals Binita Makanji, Joni Rosales and George Hughes. We would like to express our gratitude to our dedicated team and colleagues and, in particular, to Anisa Mkuwu, whose support was invaluable in organizing the event. At SUL Computing, we firmly believe that professional certifications, coupled with a university degree, significantly enhance career opportunities for our students.
This cohort of London students was the first group to join me at the new digital campus in London, amidst the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic with all its challenges. They have been studying for three years since then. As their lecturer, I have spent days and even nights engaging with them, both face to face and online, as I was representing the entire university for them, serving as a technical specialist, tutor, mentor, and course leader to name a few. Over time, they have become more like a family to me rather than just learners. I take great pride in their hardworking and passionate nature. It’s not so frequent for an academic to witness so many graduations during their professional career. Last week, one of my graduation ceremonies took place last week, unfortunately, I had to miss it due to work commitments and an overseas conference. Nevertheless, I’m extremely proud to see how concerned I was about their journey in the beginning has now transformed into satisfaction with the quality of education they have received and the bright future that awaits them.
The same feeling, and even more, applies to my PG students – a full cohort comprising 100% international students whose tuition fees, in my personal opinion, are unfairly high. These students have dedicated a long time planning and saving for their education in a new country, facing cultural and language constraints. All they have is hope and a strong work ethic, pursuing a prosperous future. As someone with a similar life story, I genuinely understand the challenges they face, and I am incredibly proud of their achievements today! Congratulations to all the graduates of the Class of 2023 from SUL Computing!
I had the privilege of attending the Erasmus Plus dissemination and information event at the Modern University for Business and Science (MUBS), thanks to Prof. Abdel-Hamid Soliman from Staffordshire University. We presented at the Advanced Security and Connectivity workshop as part of the ELEGANT CBHE (Capacity Building in Higher Education) project. Additionally, engaging in insightful discussions with the project’s partners and academics from universities in Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Greece, Sweden, Germany, and Poland proved to be very fruitful. We exchanged knowledge and experiences related to striving for better sustainability and quality in higher education, academic mobility, and HE cultural growth. In short, the discussions revolved around Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE). Among the various presentations, I found the discussions on the following topics particularly interesting:
Enhancing excellence in higher education through innovation
Ensuring a positive impact on society by promoting inclusivity across social classes
Traineeship programs for academic mobility (physical/virtual/blended) with governmental support, including the challenges and fostering access and cooperation in higher education
Integration and development of transnational study programs through consortium of international universities, addressing the associated challenges and opportunities
Capacity building through partnerships and transformative initiatives, ranging from structural reforms of HE systems to the role of women in policy making
Designing lifelong learning courses
Establishing teaching excellence centers and implementing train-the-trainer programs, sustainability plans and to ensure long-term benefits.

The emergence of IoT in business models is on the rise, presenting both new opportunities and challenges. AI enables businesses to leverage data produced by IoT devices (e.g. sensors) to overcome obstacles. Different AI-based solutions, such as knowledge representation/reasoning, data mining and machine learning, may reveal new insights and capabilities beyond human intelligence.
The convergence of AI and IoT can shape our hyperconnected world for the better by enhancing operational efficiency, reducing the cost of risk, improving products and services and mitigating challenges posed by big data produced by IoT devices.
Sensors are a major enabling technology of IoT. Data produced by WSNs require analysis so that appropriate actions can be carried out. This is where AI-based solutions can play an important role.
This Special Issue from MDPI Sensors reviews the applications of artificial intelligence, data mining, machine learning, knowledge representation and reasoning in IoT technologies. It also focuses on emerging and innovative AI-based solutions for solving IoT-related challenges, including scalability, knowledge discovery and handling big data.
Just attended ELEGANT project workshop in Jordan and presented two sessions at Princess Sumaya University for Technology. The project is about Enhancing Teaching, Learning and Graduate Employability through University-Enterprise Cooperation and runs between EU & Middle East. The aim was to strengthen the employability skills of graduates and to share best practices in order to develop new forms of industry-oriented education for ICT curricula.
